COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force junior Brittany Morreale was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced this afternoon (Sept. 16). It is the first career honor for the team co-captain and the first for the women's program since the 2005 season. Morreale shared the weekly honor with Kyle Perry of BYU, who received the men's honor.
In her first appearance of the season, Morreale finished 14th out of 161 runners at the 64th annual Aztec Invitational on Sept. 13. The Falcons' top finisher crossed the finish line in a career-best 5000-meter time of 18:23, which is the third-fastest time in the conference so far this season. Morreale, who also paced all Mountain West Conference runners at that meet, was one of two Falcons to finish within the top-20 as Air Force picked up a seventh-place team finish.
The Falcons are off from competition until Saturday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Boulder, Colo., for the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course.
