USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Seventeen home games, including a record six televised regular-season games, highlight the 2008-09 Air Force women's basketball schedule, announced today by head coach Ardie McInelly. Including its opening exhibition match with Adams State on Nov. 6, the Falcons play 18 home games.
The Falcons host three home games that will be televised by the Mountain West Sports Network (Mtn.). The Falcons host Army on Nov. 29, Navy on Jan. 3 and Colorado State on Jan. 20 in front of a live-national TV audience. The Falcons also have a road game at Denver on Dec. 10, that will be televised on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain and a road game at San Diego State on Jan. 7 that will be televised on the CBS Sports Network (CBS C). The MWC Championships will be televised on the Mtn., with the championship game televised on VERSUS.
"I am very excited about our schedule," McInelly said. "Getting at least six games on national television gives our program great exposure to people that would otherwise not get to see us play. In addition, it helps in allowing our recruits across the country to get a chance to see Air Force women's basketball."
Air Force has 13 non-conference and 16 conference games on its slate. Nine of the 13 non-conference games are at home as Air Force opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 against Northern Colorado. After two more home games vs. Chadron State (Nov. 20) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Nov. 22), the Falcons play their first road game on Nov. 26 at Texas Pan-American.
After the home games with Army on Nov. 29 and Barry University on Dec. 1, the Falcons host the 2008 Air Force Classic, Dec. 5-6, featuring North Carolina Central, Miami-Ohio and Texas Pan-American. The Falcons open the tournament on Dec. 5 against North Carolina Central.
The Falcons hit the road for their next game at Denver, Dec. 10, then host UMKC on Dec. 22. Air Force rounds out 2008 with a road trip to Illinois, taking on Bradley on Dec. 28 and Chicago State on Dec. 30.
"I think we have a solid non-conference schedule that will prepare us to face a Mountain West Conference slate that is always challenging," McInelly added. "Getting Army and Navy at home is a great situation for us. Those games bring out the best in service academy basketball and the fact that people across the country will get to see it on TV will be an added bonus."
After its final non-conference home game Jan. 3 vs. Navy, Air Force opens Mountain West Conference play at San Diego State on Jan. 7. The Falcons return home for a weekend game vs. New Mexico, Jan. 10 and then hit the road for games at Utah, Jan. 14 and TCU Jan. 17.
The Falcons also have home games vs. Colorado State (Jan. 20), Wyoming (Jan. 28), San Diego State (Feb. 7), Utah (Feb. 14), TCU (Feb. 18), UNLV (March 4) and BYU (March 7). Air Force's remaining road games are at UNLV (Jan. 31), BYU (Feb. 4), New Mexico (Feb. 11), Colorado State (Feb. 21) and Wyoming (Feb. 28).
Air Force will also participate in the MWC Championships from March 10-14 in Las Vegas, Nev.
