Falcons Drop Conference Dual to BYU

USAFA, Colo. - During its final road trip of the regular season, the Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to conference rival BYU Friday evening. The Falcon men won five events in a close 128-115 loss to the Cougars, while the women were swept by BYU, falling 140-86.
The men captured a win in their first event, finishing first in the 200 medley relay, as Kai Yamashiro (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii), Justin Day (Sr., Peyton, Colo.), Chris Morin (Jr., Crown Point, Ind.) and Robert Dawson (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined for a mark of 1:32.77.
Sophomore Benjamin Gunn (Gainesville, Ga.) scored the first individual victory for the Falcons, winning the 200 IM with a mark of 1:54.82. Yamashiro added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, registering a season-best mark of 50.68, while Day captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.81.
Morin turned in a mark of 50.89 to lead Air Force in the 100 butterfly. The Falcons took the top four spots in the event, with Bryan Avery (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii), Karl Mohrmann (So., Lake Forest, Ill.) and Nate Roesler (Fr., Hastings, Minn.) finishing second, third and fourth, respectively.
Avery also added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle, while Dawson took second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
On the women's side, senior captain Jane Hwang (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) led the way, finishing as the runner-up in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events. She clocked a time of 53.01 in the 100 free, while her time of 1:53.76 in the 200 free was a season-best. Meanwhile, Lauren Shetley (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.) led the Falcons in the women's diving events, finishing third at 1-meter with a score of 260.10.
The Falcons close out their road trip tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. dual versus Utah.
