Falcons Drop Three at Lone Star Duals

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Despite two wins each from Stephen Crozier (Sr., Monona, Iowa) and Tyler French (Jr., Malta, Mont.), the Air Force wrestling team opened its dual slate Saturday with three losses at the Lone Star Duals. The Falcons fell to Appalachian State, 30-6, Brown, 26-6, and seventh-ranked Minnesota, 41-3.
In the first match of the day, the Falcons faced off against Appalachian State. Sophomore Andrew Zwirlein (Nashotah, Wis.) opened with an 8-3 decision over Andrew Sifakis at 125 pounds to put Air Force up 3-0, but the Mountaineers won the next five bouts to take a 18-3 lead. French, wrestling at 174 pounds, gave the Falcons another win with a 9-8 decision against Antoine Jones, but Appalachian State closed out with three more wins to score the 30-6 victory.
Air Force took on Brown in its next dual, and dropped its first five bouts before Crozier registered an 8-2 decision over Chris Musser at 165 pounds. French gave the Falcons their second-straight win with a 3-1 decision over Bran Crudden, but Air Force was unable to get another individual victory in the 26-6 loss.
In the final dual of the day, the Falcons faced Minnesota, currently ranked seventh in the nation. With four of the Golden Gophers currently ranked in the top 20 nationally in their respective weight classes, Air Force managed just one win, an 8-5 decision by Crozier over Matt Everson, in the 41-3 loss.
The Falcons are back in action next week, Jan. 10-11, when they head to California for three dual meets. First, Air Force travels to Riverside on Saturday to face Cal Baptist, before taking on Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco State in Fullerton on Sunday.
