Falcons Conclude Competition at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Air Force men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up a strong start to the season by completing competition Saturday at the Pacific Invitational, being held at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The men finished third in the team standings with 567 points, while the women took fourth place with 296.5 points.
Leading the way for the Air Force men on the second day of competition was junior Josh Hammervold (Sugar Land, Texas), who posted a ninth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:11.66. Hammervold was also the Falcons' top performer in the 200 IM, placing 12th with a time of 1:58.02.
Also registering a top-10 finish for the Falcons was senior Sean O'Keefe (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who placed 10th in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:43.46. O'Keefe also turned in Air Force's top finish in the 100 free, placing 19th in the race.
Senior captain Chris Morin (Sr., Crown Point, Ind.) placed 13th in the 100 fly with a mark of 52.05 to lead the Falcons in the event, while also turning in the team's top performance in the 100 backstroke, placing 21st. Eric Robinson (Jr., Lakewood, Colo.) was Air Force's top finisher in the 200 fly, placing 13th with a mark of 1:56.82, while freshman Paul Young (Lakeville, Minn.) turned in the Falcons' top performance in the 200 back, finishing 14th with a time of 1:59.53.
Other scorers for the Falcons on day two were Corydon Butler (So., Williamsburg, Va.), who placed 13th in the 500 free, and Greg Edmonds (Sr., Fairfax Station, Va.), Cody Deacon (So., Portland, Ore.), and Mark Hansen (Fr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.), who finished 13th,14th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 breast.
On the women's side, freshman Haley Holcombe (Snellville, Ga.) was the top individual performer for the Falcons, earning the team's lone top-10 finish by placing 10th in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:11.50. Holcombe also led Air Force in two other events, placing 11th in both the 200 IM (2:12.26) and 100 butterfly (58.96).
Katrina Castellanos (Fr., Roseville, Calif.), who finished 11th in the 200 butterfly, was the Falcons' top performer in the 200 breaststroke, placing 12th in a time of 2:30.38. Sophomore Cassie Fletcher (Durham, N.C.) led Air Force with an 11th-place finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 54.39, while junior Kaeli Kluesner (Denver, Colo.) was the Falcons' top scorer in the 200 back, placing 12th with a time of 2:13.22.
Also scoring for Air Force on Saturday were Shelby Schaefer (Fr., Roseville, Calif.) and Rachel Reeder (So., St. Thomas, Pa.), who placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 back, and Becky Gleason (Sr., Ballwin, Mo.), who finished 16th in the 200 fly. In addition, senior captain Katelyn Hunter (La Crescent, Minn.) led Air Force in the 100 back, finishing 16th with a time of 1:03.12, while freshman Rachel Roberts (Eagle River, Alaska) was the Falcons' top performer in the 500 freestyle, placing 18th.
The Falcons return to action next Friday, Oct. 23, when they host conference rival TCU in their home opener. The dual meet is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Cadet Natatorium.
