Fain and Drenckhahn Pace Falcons at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. - Sophomore Auriele Fain (women's team) and freshman Jeremy Drenckhahn (men's team) paced the Air Force cross country program to matching fourth-place finishes at the 24th annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Boulder, Colo. Fain placed 18th in a field of 169, while Drenckhahn finished 64th among 204 total runners.

Fain clocked a 5.8K time of 22:43 to finish 18th overall (seventh in Division I scoring) and pace the nine-member women's team. Senior Brittany Morreale finished in 23:27 to finish 37th (15th in Division I scoring), while sophomore Meghan Prinkey clocked a time of 23:41 to place 39th (16th in Division I). Junior Whitney Beck (53rd overall, 20th Division I) clocked a time of 24:10, while freshman Dominique Amor (73rd overall, 24th Division I) posted a time of 24:39 to round out the Falcons' scoring runners.

Freshmen Melissa Fuerst (24:44) and Kara Hovseth (25:04) finished 80th and 93rd, respectively, in the overall standings, while sophomore Alexa Ramsier (25:40, 106th) and Kathleen Vardell (25:47, 110th) rounded out the Air Force runners that competed in Boulder.

Air Force placed fourth in the Division I team standings with 82 points. Backed by the top finishers and Jenny Barringer's course record performance, Colorado won the Division I meet with 15 points. Wyoming placed second with 56 points, while Northern Colorado recorded 77 points to take third.

Drenckhahn crossed the finish line an 8K time of 28:15 to place 64th overall and 14th among Division I runners. Classmate Andrew Quallio also finished within the top 100 of the 204-runner event, as he finished in 28:15 to place 77th (16th in Division I). Donald Jackson finished 102nd (19th Division I) in a time of 29:23, while classmate Dylan Hallums placed 109th (20th Division I) in 29:34. Senior Conor Murphy rounded out the Falcons' scoring runners with a 117th-place finish (22nd Division I), after crossing the finish line in 29:46.

Five other freshmen competed at the Rocky Mountain Shootout. Zak Boston (118th) clocked a time of 29:47, while Thomas Heikkinen finished 123rd in 29:51. Seth Pelletier (128th, 29:58), Gage Owens (137th, 30:15) and Chris Espinosa (153rd, 30:53) rounded out the Falcons' runners.

Air Force finished fourth with 91 points. Colorado won its home tournament with 16 points, while Wyoming (53 points) and Northern Colorado (85 points) finished second and third, respectively.

The Falcons head to Hays, Kan., for the annual Tiger Invitational at Fort Hays State on Saturday, Oct. 10.
