Rifle team takes second place at Hawaiian Invitational

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Academy's rifle team traveled to Hawaii, Feb. 28, to compete in the Hawaiian Invitational. In the team scoring, Air Force finished smallbore with 2232 points. TCU won the smallbore event with 2260 points. In air rifle, the Falcons lost 2242. TCU was the air rifle winner with 2281 points followed by Nevada-Reno with 2245 points. TCU was the overall winner of the competition with an aggregate score of 4541, Air Force followed with 4474 and Nevada-Reno's 2245.
Individually, Tom Chandler came in second with a 569/600 in the smallbore. Nick Krieger finished with a 565and Pat Everson and Mike Seery both finished the event with 549 points each for the team score of 2232. Brian Jarrell had a 545 in the smallbore.
In air rifle, both Chandler and Jarrell pulled out a 563/600 and Kyle Phillips and Seery ended the event with each scoring a 558 for the team score of 2242. Rachel Arthur also scored 552 points and Chris Richardson finished the day with a 542.
The Falcons conclude the regular season with a 6-13 record. Chandler will make his first trip to the 2009 NCAA Men's and Women's Rifle Championships, March 13-14, in Forth Worth, Texas, at the TCU Rifle Range.
