UNLV Shuts Out Air Force, 7-0

The Air Force men's tennis team lost its second straight Mountain West Conference match in as many days Saturday, losing to 65th-ranked UNLV, 7-0, at the Academy. With the victory, UNLV improved to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in MWC play, while the Falcons fell to 7-13 and 0-2.
The Rebels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. Attila Toth and Nicolaj Wulff were off the court first after defeating sophomore Taylor Soster and junior James Tomlin, 8-2, at the No. 2 position. Wes Burrows and Mehdi Bouras clinched the point by downing sophomore Johnny Buckingham and freshman Will Brown, 8-5, at the No. 3 spot, while Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi won at No. 1, 8-6, over junior Austin Francis and freshman Cody Hall.
In singles play, Burrows gave UNLV a 2-0 lead when Soster became ill and was forced to retire at the No. 3 spot after Burrows won the first set, 6-1. Barlocchi then downed Buckingham, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 and Wronski clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Francis at the top spot.
The best singles match came at the No. 2 position between Bouras and Hall. Hall claimed the first set 6-3, then Bouras won the second by the same score and rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third to win, 6-4. Toth defeated sophomore Alex Beaussart, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Wulff completed the sweep with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Tomlin at the No. 6 spot.
The Falcons' match against San Diego State on Sunday has been cancelled since the Aztecs were unable to fly to Colorado due to the recent snowstorm. Air Force's next match will be the home finale next Saturday, April 4 against Montana beginning at 2 p.m.
