Falcons Lose 4-0 to UNM at MWC Championships

The Air Force men's tennis team wrapped up its 2008-09 campaign Thursday with a 4-0 loss to host New Mexico in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The Falcons finished the season with a 7-18 record.
The second-seeded Lobos, who improved to 18-5 and will face UNLV in the semifinals on Friday, took a 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby won at No. 1, 8-2, over junior Brett Rodgers and sophomore Taylor Soster, while Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Wood won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3, over junior Austin Francis and freshman Cody Hall.
Phil Anderson earned the second point for UNM at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Soster, then Wood made it 3-0 at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over junior James Tomlin.
Parkes, the MWC Player of the Year, clinched the match for New Mexico with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot over Hall, who was playing just his second match of the season at No. 1. Hall led the Falcons with 16 overall singles wins this season and had the best dual match record at 12-10.
