Falcon Swimmers Complete Winter Training at FIU Relay Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. - The Air Force men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their winter training Saturday, competing at the FIU Relay Invitational, held at the Bay Vista Aquatic Center. The Falcons won the men's competition, finishing with 154 team points, while the Air Force women placed third with 52 points.
The men, who finished no lower than second in any event, won three of eight races on the day. Winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:31.10 was the team of Benjamin Gunn (Jr., Gainesville, Ga.), Josh Hammervold (Jr., Sugar Land, Texas), Chris Morin (Sr., Crown Point, Ind.) and Robert Dawson (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), while the Falcons also won the 200 butterfly relay and 200 breaststroke relay.
The women's top finish came in the 200 butterfly relay, where Air Force's `A' team captured second place with a time of 1:50.79. The Falcons also placed third in the 400 medley relay, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Cassie Fletcher (So., Durham, N.C.), Haley Holcombe (Fr., Snellville, Ga.), Esther Kim (Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Lauren McGuire (Fr., Douglasville, Ga.) clocked a time of 1:41.51 to take third place in the event.
The Falcon women also posted five other top-five finishes--fourth in the 200 butterfly relay and fifth in the 400 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 backstroke relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Air Force returns to action next weekend, Jan. 9, when it visits in-state rival Denver for a non-conference dual meet.
