COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the second consecutive week, Air Force senior Sara Neubauer (Bottineau, N.D.) was selected as the Mountain West Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Neubauer, who shared the award with TCU junior Festus Kegan and BYU senior Mindy McClurkin, reset her Academy records in the shot put and weight throw twice over the weekend.
This is the second indoor award for Neubauer and the third overall, as she claimed the honor once during the outdoor season. It is the first time ever that Air Force has taken the league's weekly awards in back-to-back weeks.
Neubauer first broke her two Academy records on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational. She placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 59'7¾", before winning the shot put with a distance of 51'6¼". Neubauer, who added a foot to her personal-best measures, bettered the 50 throwers in the shot put by six feet.
Less than 24 hours later, Neubauer returned to the throwing circle at the adidas Classic and promptly broke both records for the third straight meet. She won the shot put with another NCAA Provisional throw, setting the new standard at 52'3¾". In addition, she became the first Air force female to clear the 60-foot mark in the weight throw, setting a career-best Academy record of 60'1".
Neubauer, who undefeated in competition on the year, leads the Mountain West Conference in both events. In addition, she is ranked 13th in the nation in the shot put and 30th in the weight throw.
Neubauer and the rest of the Falcons return to the Academy this Saturday (Jan. 30) to host the second annual Don Barrett Duals. The meet, which will feature Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
