Falcons Conclude Opening Day of Air Force Diving Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - With two events complete, the Air Force men's and women's diving teams wrapped up the opening day of competition Friday at the Air Force Diving Invitational, being held in the Cadet Natatorium. The men started the invitational with the 3-meter dive, while the women competed in the 1-meter springboard event.
In the men's 3-meter dive, Air Force had three of the top four finishers, led by Kyle Van Valkenburg (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.), who took second place with a mark of 305.60. David Arlington (Sr., Eagle River, Alaska) finished third in the standings with a score of 295.15, while Beau Riebe (Fr., Mercer Island, Wash.) placed third with a personal-best score of 289.40.
Also competing for the Falcons were Jesse Bicknell (So., Westtown, N.Y.), Nathaniel Gilbert (Jr., River Falls, Wis.), Cheyne Clark (So., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Brent White (Fr., Loveland, Colo.), who finished in spots six through nine, respectively. Winning the event was Wyoming's Mark Murdock, who posted a score of 355.60.
Meanwhile, in the women's 1-meter dive, senior Chelsea Tompkins (Grand Junction, Colo.) placed 15th overall, recording a score of 215.25. Wyoming's Stephanie Ortiz was the top finisher in the women's event, posting a mark of 275.65.
The final three events of the Air Force Diving Invitational will take place tomorrow. The action starts at 9:00 a.m. with the men's 1-meter springboard, followed by the women's 3-meter springboard at 10:30 a.m. The invitational will conclude with the combined platform, slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
