LA VERNE, Calif. -
Led by five goals from senior captain Bobby Geiger (Buellton, Calif.), the Air Force water polo team picked up a 12-6 victory over Fordham Saturday at the Convergence Tournament, being held at La Verne. With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-9 on the season.
In the opening period, sophomore Cruz Smithson (Capistrano Beach, Calif.), one of the Falcons' leading scorers, left the game with a cut over his eye which required stitches, but Air Force was still able to take a 3-1 lead into the second period. The Falcons went on to gain a 7-4 advantage at the half and extended the margin to six goals after three quarters before taking the 12-6 victory.
In addition to Geiger's five scores, senior Matt Shields (Gilroy, Calif.) added three goals, freshman Josh Stedman (Brea, Calif.) tallied two scores and Kurt Lemmen (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) and Garrett Womack (So., Redlands, Calif.) notched a goal each. Sophomore Dillon Fisher (Orange, Calif.) added a team-best three assists, while junior goalkeeper Danny Harold (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) reached double-digits in saves for the second-straight game, tallying 11 stops.
The Falcons conclude their weekend of action tomorrow, when they visit third-ranked UC Irvine for a noon (PT) contest.
