Northern Arizona Downs Falcons, 5-2

The Air Force men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Northern Arizona Saturday at the Academy. With the victory, the Lumberjacks improved to 4-2 for the season while Air Force dropped to 1-2. Freshman Lance Wilhelm and senior Austin Francis won at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, for the Falcons.

NAU picked up doubles wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions to claim an early lead. After Robin Pezzutto and Andrew Reiff cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 3 over junior Alex Beaussart and freshman Sam Barnes, Senior Brett Rodgers and junior Taylor Soster won at No. 1 for the Falcons, defeating Patrick Schimmelbauer and David Flodberg, 8-6. Hugo Ramadier and Kevin Taylor clinched the doubles point for NAU with a 9-7 win at No. 2 over Wilhelm and Francis.

Pezzutto cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Soster at No. 3, to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead, but Wilhelm beat Reiff, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 and Francis downed Schimmelbauer, 6-3, 6-1, to tie the match at 2-all. Wilhelm improved to 3-0 this spring and has won two of them in three sets.

NAU swept the final four matches, including a thrilling three-set match at No. 4, with Ramadier rallying for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win over Rodgers and Taylor pulling out a 6-2, 7-6 (12) match at No. 6 over Beaussart.

The Falcons travel to Bozeman, Mont., for three matches net weekend, beginning against Lewis & Clark College on Friday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m.
