The Air Force men's tennis team looks to snap its three-match losing streak this weekend as it opens Mountain West Conference play with a couple of home matches. The Falcons (10-5) will host 32nd-ranked BYU on Thursday, April 1 at 2 p.m., then the University of Utah on Saturday, April 3 at 10 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played on the outdoor courts, but may be moved inside due to weather conditions.
The Falcons are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season after dropping a pair of 6-1 decisions to Illinois State on Monday and Pacific on Tuesday. Freshman Lance Wilhelm continues to be a bright spot for Air Force, posting a 19-6 overall singles record and an impressive 12-3 mark at the No. 1 position. Senior Brett Rodgers and junior Taylor Soster have been dominant in doubles this year with a 20-6 overall record and a 13-2 record at the No. 1 spot.
BYU comes to the Academy with a 15-4 record after a 7-0 victory over Loyola Marymount last weekend. The Cougars defeated AFA, 7-0, last season and have not lost a point to Air Force since the 2006 campaign (BYU won 5-2).
Utah, meanwhile, is 5-10 entering its match on Thursday at New Mexico. The Utes defeated New Mexico State, 4-3, last Friday to snap a seven-match losing streak. Utah defeated the Falcons, 7-0, last season and hasn't lost to Air Force since 2003.
