Falcons Finish Ninth at PING Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah -
Led by senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team finished in ninth place at the PING Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU at the par-72, 7,142-yard Riverside Country Club. The Falcons turned in their best round on Saturday, firing a 290 to finish the tournament at 881 (+17).
Whitney's third-round score of 66 was the lowest in the field on Saturday, as he finished the tournament in sixth place overall at 210 (-6). Whitney has now finished in the top-10 in 12 of 12 tournaments this season.
Next in the standings for the Falcons were freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) and sophomore Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas), who both tied for 57th place individually at 224 (+8). Robert Belz (So., San Antonio, Texas) turned in a score off 228 to tie for 75th place, while Kyle Bailey (Jr., Austin, Texas) finished in a tie for 92nd place at 236.
Colorado State captured the team title, turning in a three-round score of 850 (-14). Meanwhile, Nevada's Jared Becher earned medalist honors, finishing the tournament at 10-under-par (206).
Next up for the Falcons is the Mountain West Conference Championship, being held May 6-8 at Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz.
