Air Force Concludes Competition at Cowboy Classic

Paced once again by senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team finished 20th at the Cowboy Classic, hosted by Wyoming at the par-70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club-North Course. The Falcons turned in a three-round score of 894 (+54) for the tournament.
Whitney, who was tied for 36th place in the individual standings after one round, moved up the leaderboard on Tuesday, finishing tied for fourth place at 211 (+1). The senior saved his best round for last, firing a 67 in the final round. Whitney has now recorded seven top-five finishes in 11 tournaments this season and nine finishes in the top 10.
Freshman Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.) was next for the Falcons, finishing tied for 81st place at 225, while sophomore Travis Deckert (Wichita, Kan.), who shot a season-low 71 in the final round, finished two strokes behind in a tie for 89th place.
Also competing for the Falcons, Peter Guzowski (Sr., Tiffin, Ohio) and Tyler Downing (Fr., Sturgis, Mich.) finished at 234 and 240, respectively. In addition, two other Air Force golfers competed as individuals. Freshman Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished the tournament at 245, while senior Scottsdale native Alex Horrell posted a score of 259.
CSU-Northridge captured the team title, firing a 1-over-par 841 for the tournament. Meanwhile, San Diego's Gunner Wiebe earned medalist honors, finishing 7-under at 203.
The Falcons close out the regular season April 24-25 when they head to Provo, Utah, for the PING Golf Cougar Classic, hosted by MWC rival BYU.
