USAFA, Colo. - Sophomores Andrew Hamilton (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Josh Stedman (Brea, Calif.) each scored three goals to lead the Air Force water polo team to an 11-10 road victory over Whittier Friday evening.
With the victory, the Falcons move to 7-15 overall on the year and 4-7 in the Western Water Polo Association, while the Poets drop to 8-17 overall and 1-9 in the WWPA.
After a low scoring opening period that ended with a 1-1 tie, both teams began to spark offensively in the second period, with Air Force taking a slight 6-5 advantage at the half. The Falcons' second-quarter edge proved to be the difference, as both teams scored evenly in the next two periods, giving Air Force the one-goal victory.
In addition to Hamilton and Stedman, five other Falcons found the back of the net, with Petar Jackovich (Fr., New Lenox, Ill.), Brad Rajchel (Jr, Winter Park, Fla.), Jantz Johnson (Fr., Murrieta, Calif.), Cruz Smithson (Jr., Capistrano Beach, Calif.) and Garrett Womack (Jr., Redlands, Calif.) scoring a goal each. In addition, junior Dillon Fisher (Orange, Calif.) registered four assists, while senior goalkeeper Danny Harold (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) notched eight saves.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow evening, as they visit WWPA foe Pomona-Pitzer in a 5:00 contest.
