Brent White of Air Force men's diving is in his junior season at Air Force. White is coming off a solid weekend of diving, winning the men's 3m dive against Wyoming and scoring a career-high 314.18 points against Denver the following day. White sat down with C3C Michael DePauw and answered some questions.
How do you think the season is going so far and what are some goals that the team has for the rest of the year?
This season is going fairly well so far. We've had a few setbacks, but on the whole the team is really stepping up and diving well. Some of our goals are to finish the season out strong, and to dive well at conference, as we're hosting it this year.
You had a good meet between Denver last weekend, scoring 258.09 points in the 1 meter, 314.18 points in the 3 meter, and finishing second in both. How do you hope to perform this weekend at the Falcon Diving Invitational?
Last meet was my best 3 meter meet by a lot, so that was a major blessing. I'm hoping to do at least that well this weekend, staying tight and hitting all my dives.
With the London Olympics later this year, who is your favorite diver and how do you think they will do in the Olympics?
Honestly...I don't even know who's diving in them. I am hoping that a US diver will somehow pull ahead of the Chinese and win in at least one event, that would be incredible.
With a home meet this weekend, do you prepare any differently than an away meet? Also, how do you like the atmosphere of a home meet?
We get to practice a little longer when we have home meets. And the mental prep for home meets is definitely different that for away meets. Depending on the meet, I usually like the atmosphere of home meets better, but there are some away meets that are in great facilities or locations that are a lot of fun.
How have the new pool facilities impacted the team's training and performance?
The new facilities have really helped improve the team's training and performance. Compared to last year when we had to practice early in the morning off-base at Colorado College, having our own facility with a tower to practice on has been great.
