U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force water polo team, ranked 15th in the nation, defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 14-10, Monday, Oct. 13, in Claremont, Calif. Air Force improves to 8-11 overall this season while Pomona-Pitzer fell to 4-12.
Trailing 8-6, Falcon sophomore goalie Max Benson stopped a penalty shot late in the second quarter and another one early in the third quarter. The Falcons used that momentum to score five unanswered goals, two by Ben Rogers to take an 11-8 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Sagehens scored two goals to cut the Falcon lead to 11-10 midway through the fourth quarter. However, Falcon senior Petar Jackovich gave the Falcons a 12-10 lead with 3:33 remaining. Dominic Vicino scored a minute later and Jackovich rounded out the scoring with his fourth of the match.
Rogers and Jackovich each scored four goals for Air Force, while Jantz Johnson and Vicino each had two. Benson finished with a season high 20 saves.
Air Force returns home to host Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m.
