
Falcons Kick Off Baldy Castillo Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - With the fourth-best hammer throw distance in Academy history, senior Becca Bauman helped members of the Air Force track and field team kick off the outdoor season today (Friday, March 21) at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational.
Bauman recorded a personal-best distance of 172'6" to finish ninth among collegiate throwers (11th overall) in the hammer throw. Improving her career distance by nearly five feet, Bauman moved from seventh to fourth on the program's all-time list.
Crossing the finish line of the 1500-meter run in a career-best time of 3:46.04, sophomore Patrick Corona posted the squad's top placement of the day, finishing third in the 38-runner field. Senior Gavin Owens (15th, career-best 3:54.69), junior Riley Coates (17th, career-best 3:55.57) and senior Matthieu Caldwell (18th, 3:56.05) also finished within the top half of the field in that event.
Junior Heather Connick competed in the women's 1500-meter run, finishing 14th with in 4:53.32, while senior William Kent paced a trio of throwers in the men's hammer with a 13th-place distance of 175'7".
With the hammer throw and 1500-meter run complete, the rest of the squad begins competition tomorrow (Saturday, March 22) at Sun Angel Stadium. The field events begin at 10 a.m., while the running events get underway at 1:00 p.m.
