
Falcons Wrap Up Action at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Three additions were made to the Academy record book, as members of the Air Force track and field team competed at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Friday, April 18. The program's top-10 marks for two men's events and one women's relay were impacted today at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Naomi Alston, freshman Alexa Chacon, senior Kassie Gurnell and junior Morgan Malone combined for a time of 3:50.12 to move into fourth on the women's all-time list, while freshman Darby Maier and junior Jake Spuller debuted on the men's list. Competing in the shot put, Maier won his flight and finished ninth overall with a career-best distance of 56'4" - a mark that tied for fourth on the program's all-time list. Spuller, who earned a top-25 finish in the 200-meter run (25th), clocked a career-best time of 21.39 to debut in a tie for 10th in the Academy record book.
Senior Rachel Herald cleared 5'7" to tie for second in the high jump, while classmate Annette Eichenberger finished eighth in the 800-meter run, clocking a season-best time of 2:07.58 to better the majority of the 103-runner field. Gurnell, who ran on both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump to her day, as she recorded a distance of 40'2¼".
Junior Danielle Tabb earned a top-10 finish in the shot put for the women, as she placed ninth with a season-best distance of 47'6¼". Gurnell, Alston, Malone and freshman Cecily Agu rounded out the top-25 finishers for the women's team, as they finished 17th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.09 - their second-fastest time of the season.
In addition to his top-25 finish in the 200-meter dash, Spuller also ran on the men's 4x100-meter relay that finished 12th with their second-fastest time of the season - 41.50. Seniors Alex Lindsay and Matthieu Caldwell added top-20 times in the 800-meter run, as Lindsay finished 18th in 1:51.87 and Caldwell placed 20th with a time of 1:52.10. Sophomore Joey Wilkin rounded out the Falcons' top-25 finishers on the track, as he clocked a time of 14.64 to finish 25th in the 110-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Grant Hamilton joined Maier among the top-10 of the shot put, as he placed seventh with a distance of 56'8". Junior Joey Uhle and sophomore Dylan Bell finished third and fourth, respectively, in the "A" flight of the pole vault behind matching marks of 17'2¾". Senior Cort Rogers finished 11th in the "B" section with a height of 16'0¾", while freshman Kyle Pater placed ninth in the "C" section with a clearance of 15'5". Sophomore Garrett Griffin and senior Tim Urista placed 20th (192'5") and 22nd (188'9"), respectively, in the javelin throw, while junior Blue Kearney rounded out Air Force's top finishers, as he placed 15th in the long jump with a mark of 23'10"
Air Force returns to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 19), as it heads to Norwalk, Calif., for the annual Beach Invitational, which is slated to begin at 8:45 a.m. (PST).
