
Falcons sweep pair of games at Inland Empire Tournament

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force was a perfect 2-0 on the first day of the annual Inland Empire Tournament, Saturday, Sept. 13, in La Verne, Calif. The Falcons beats Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd Scripps to improve to 3-4 on the season.
Air Force opened the tournament with a 17-10 win over Pomona-Pitzer. With the teams tied at 4-4 early in the second quarter, Air Force bolted to an 11-6 lead at the half. Five goals in the third quarter and another in the fourth gave the Falcons their second win of the season. Oliver Carter and Jantz Johnson tied for the team lead with three goals each. Ben Rogers and Robby Stiefel each had two goals. Petar Jackovich led the team with three assists. Caleb Guarino made 12 saves for the Falcons.
The Falcons were a perfect 2-0 on the day as Air Force beat Claremont-Mudd Scripps, 11-9. Air Force trailed 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, but out-scored the Stags, 10-5 in the final three quarters. Air Force scored five goals in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead at the half. Each team scored five goals in the second half as Falcons earned their second win of the day and third of the season. Johnson and Dominic Vicino led the Falcons with three goals each. Robby Stiefel had a game-high seven steals and added a goal and an assist.
Air Force continues play in the Inland Empire Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 14, as the Falcons battle Redlands (9:00 am) and third-ranked USC (2:20 pm).
