INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team were invited to the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge in February, USA Gymnastics recently announced. Senior Gared Chapman, classmate Nick Gaudlip and junior Denis Aurelius all qualified to the national event, which determines the U.S. Men's National Team.
It is the sixth straight year that multiple Academy gymnasts have been selected to Winter Cup. Chapman (2013) and Gaudlip (2014) have qualified to the meet in previous years, with Gaudlip becoming one of the first two Falcons in program history to advance to the second day of competition last year.
The 2015 Winter Cup Challenge will be held Feb. 19-21 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino's Royale Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev. Performances from the Winter Cup Challenge will help determine the 15 men that will comprise the U.S. Men's Senior National Team through the 2015 P&G Championships in August.
The preliminary round of competition will take place during two sessions on Thursday, Feb. 19, while the top 42 gymnasts, according to the Men's Program Committee's points ranking system, will advance to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 21.
