LMU holds off Air Force, 13-10

Loyola Marymount scored four goals in the first quarter and held off Air Force for a 13-10 win in a Western Water Polo Association game, Friday, Oct. 16, at the Academy's Cadet Natatorium.
The Lions jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first, but back-to-back goals by Zach Kamai and Riley Thomas tied the game at 5-5 in the second. The Lions scored one late in the second quarter and three unanswered goals in the third for a 9-5 advantage. The Falcons cut the Lions' lead to 9-7 on goals by Robby Stiefel and Garrett Fisk late in the third quarter. The Lions responded with three unanswered goals in the fourth for a 13-8 lead. Two goals by Falcon freshman Edward Smet late in the fourth made up the final margin.
Smet, Thomas and Fisk led the Falcons with three goals each. Thomas led Air Force with three assists. Junior goaltender Max Benson made 13 saves.
Air Force travels to UC San Diego for a conference game on Thursday, Oct. 22, in San Diego.
