Falcons fall to New Mexico in women's swimming

The University of New Mexico defeated Air Force, 171-129, in the season-opening women's swimming meet, Friday, Oct. 9, at the Academy's Cadet Natatorium.
Several Falcons won individual events, led by junior Genevieve Miller. Miller, and senior Sara Menke, were the top two distance swimmers in the Mountain West last season and they picked up right where they left off. Miller won three events, the 1,000 freestyle (10:27.88), the 500 free (5:05.05) and the 200 free (1:55.94). Menke was second in the 200 free (1:57.32) and was third in the 1,000 free (10:42.36) and the 500 free (5:14.05).
In the 100 butterfly, Maria Schroeder won with a time of 56.88 while Elise Hart was second (57.03). In the 200 butterfly, Jenna Tasic won with a time of 2:06.64.
In diving, Jessica Horn won the three-meter (257.70) and one-meter (272.40) events.
Air Force (0-1) travels to Pensacola, Fla., on Oct. 16-17 for meet against Tulane and West Florida. The Falcons next home meet is Saturday, Oct. 24, when the men's and women's teams host North Dakota, Colorado Mines, Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo.
