Four Falcons Win at U.S. Western Open

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force wrestling had four first-place finishers at the 2015 U.S. Western Open, hosted by Air Force at the East Gym Sunday morning. The Falcons won the 125, 149, 157 and 174 pound weight classes.
Junior Josh Martinez, ranked 14th in the nation, went 4-0 on the day to win the title at 125 pounds. The Colorado Springs native defeated teammate, freshman Drew Romero in the title bout. The Falcons had a 1-2-3 sweep at 125, with Evan Ulinski taking third.
At 133 pounds, Lyle Plummer placed second for the Falcons. John Twomey of the USAFA Prep School placed first.
Colton Orrino of Northern Colorado won first at 141 pounds. Stephen Turner took second for Air Force.
Dane Robbins won the 149 title, going 2-0 on the day. Robbins defeated D.J. Argyle of Utah Valley in the title bout for the win.
At 157 pounds, Air Force took first and third. Connor Hedash went 3-0 on the day, taking first place with a win by forfeit over Jason Mossing of the Prep School. Zach Stepan took third for the Falcons.
Air Force also had a 1-2-3 sweet at 174 pounds. Adam Jackson won the title by decision over teammate Jeremy Delzer. Michael Billingsley placed third for the Falcons with a fall over Travis Bradford of Western State.
The Falcons finished second and third at 184 pounds. Willie Baker took second with a loss to Anthony McLaughlin of the Prep School. Garrett Wells took third.
At 197 pounds, Canaan Bethea of Penn and Braden Atwood of Purdue went 2-0. No title bout took place at 197.
Air Force will be off from competition next week. The Falcons return to action March 7 at the 2015 NCAA West Regional/WWC Championships in Fargo, N.D.
