Air Force drops Mountain West opener at Nevada

Nevada defeated Air Force, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Caughlin Club in Reno, Nev., in the Mountain West opener for both schools.

The Falcons opened the match by taking the doubles point, collecting victories at No. 1 and 3. Grant Taylor and Lucas Fumagalli defeated Andrew Poustie and Fernando Sunago, 7-6 (9-7) at No. 1 doubles. Jack McCullers and Nicholas Carpenter secured the doubles point for the Falcons with a 6-3 win at No. 3 over Billy Bumgardner and Robert Margitfalvi. Robert Allan and Moez Chargui defeated Max Olson and Andrew Parks, 7-6 (7-2) in the other doubles match.

Nevada swept all six singles matches. Chargui of Nevada defeated Taylor, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, at No. 1 singles. Poustie was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Fumagalli while Ryan Andrada defeated McCullers, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Allan added a 6-2, 6-4, win over Olson at No. 4. Mike Cilic defeated Parks at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-1, while Margitafalvi handed Carpenter a 6-1, 7-5 loss at No. 6 to round out the match. Air Force falls to 10-5 overall and 0-1 in Mountain West play. Nevada improves to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in MW play. The Falcons continue their road swing with a match at Fresno State on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
