14th-ranked Falcons beat Whittier, 13-9

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force water polo team, ranked 14th in the nation, closed out the four-game road trip with a 13-9 win over Whittier College, Sunday, Sept. 27, in Whittier, Calif. The Falcons went 3-1 on the road trip and improved to 4-8 overall this season.
Air Force jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the first quarter on two goals by Eric Curia and one each by Ben Rogers, Zach Kamai and Justin Harrison. Rogers and Stiefel scored early in the second for a 7-1 advantage. Air Force scored four goals in the third quarter and held a 12-6 lead after three. After Stiefel's third of the game, Whitter scored three goals in the fourth to make up the final margin. Curia and Stiefel each scored three goals to lead the Falcons. Kamai and Rogers each scored two. Stiefel and Carter each had two assists. Stiefel, Thomas and Curia each had two steals. Junior goaltender Max Benson made 11 saves.
After 12 straight road games, the Falcons play their first home game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the conference opener against UC Davis at 11 a.m. at the Cadet Natatorium.
