
Falcons fall to two top 10 teams at Triton Invitational

USAF Academy, Colo. --- The Air Force water polo team dropped a pair of games on the second day of the Triton Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 6, in La Jolla, Calif. The Falcons, ranked 17th in the nation, fell to No. 5 Pacific and No. 9 UC Irvine.
In the first game, Pacific jumped out to an 8-1 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back in an 18-9 win over the Falcons. Trailing 12-3 at halftime, each team scored six goals in the second half. Junior Robby Stiefel led the Falcons with three goals. Riley Thomas scored two.
In the final game of the tournament, the Falcons fell behind early and never led in a 10-8 loss to UC Irvine. Garrett Fisk's goal late in the first quarter tied the game at 2-2 and then Justin Harrison's goal early in the second quarter tied the game at 3-3. UC Irvine scored the next two goals for a 5-3 lead at the half. Several times the Falcons cut the deficit to one goal, with the last time coming late in the third on goal by Thomas to make the score 8-7. UC Irvine scored the next two goals for a 10-7 lead and held on for the 10-8 victory.
The Falcons, 0-4 overall this season, will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., Sept. 19-20, for the annual NorCal Tournament.
