Falcon men place second, women third at Orange Bowl Classic

The Air Force men's and women's swimming teams competed in the annual Orange Bowl Classic, Sunday, Jan. 3, in Key Largo, Fla. The men's team placed second with 187 points while the women's team was third with 82 points.
Michigan won the men's meet with 231 points while Air Force was second (187), George Mason was third (82) and Colorado College was fourth (14). Michigan also won the women's meet with 265 points while George Mason was second (85), Air Force was third (82), Vermont was fourth (77) and Colorado College was fifth (9).
On the men's side, Air Force won the first two events. The Falcons opened the meet by winning the 200 meter medley relay as the team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Steffen Mount and Jordan Dahle swam a time of 1:40.02. In the 400 meter free, Kevin Jackson won with a time of 3:51.28 and teammate Andrew Faciszewski was second (3:53.18). Kevin Mitchell was third in the 50 fly (25.24) while Kris Tillery was third in the 100 backstroke (54.38). Barnosky won the 50 meter breast stroke with a meet record time of 27.78. Barnosky also won the 100 meter breast stroke (58.57). Zach Knoche was third with a time of 1:01.26. In the 100 free, Jordan Dahle was second (50.59), Lars Knutson was third (52.03), George Frank was fourth (52.68) and Michael Hannigan was fifth (52.94). Devon Davis was second in the 100 meter fly (56.19). In the 50 backstroke, Corey Gutierrez and Kris Tillery tied for third with a time of 27.11. Dahle also placed second in the 50 free (23.31).
On the women's side, Maria Schroeder won the 100 meter fly in a time of 1:00.42. Jinan Andrews placed fourth in the 100 free (56.65). Andrews also placed fourth in the 50 meter free (26.31). Emma Strom was fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.43. The Air Force 200 meter free relay team of Maria Schroeder, Genevieve Miller, Brianna Mount and Jinan Andrews was third with a time of 1:50.24.
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action with a pair of home meets on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 15-16, at the Cadet Natatorium. The men's and women's teams from Seattle and South Dakota and the women's team from Northern Colorado will all compete in the meet.
