Falcons beat Denver in sprint dual

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force men's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Denver, 217-161, in a sprint-scoring dual meet at the Academy's Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons improved to 15-1 overall this season.
Air Force opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Steffen Mount and Jordan Dahle posted a time of 1:27.18.
In the first point-scoring run of the 50 fly, Mount won with a time of 22.28. In the first point-scoring run of the 50 back, Davis won with a time of 22.06. Michael Barnosky won the first run of the 50 breast stroke (24.18) and Dahle won the first run of the 50 free (20.34).
In the final of the 50 fly, Kevin Mitchell was third (22.16) and Mount was fourth (22.18). In the final of the 50 back, Davis won (22.03) while Kris Tillery and Corey Gutierrez tied for third (23.60). In the final of the 50 breast stroke, Barnosky won (24.34). Dahle won the 50 free final with a time of 20.19.
In the 200 IM, Barnosky was third (1:54.53). Kevin Jackson won the 200 free (1:39.88) and was second in the 500 free (4:39.15).
In the final event of the meet, the Falcons took second and third in the 200 free relay. The team of George Frank, Davis, Mount and Michael Hannigan was second (1:21.37) and the team of Symen Ooms, Lars Knutson, Dahle and Blake Lawrie was third (1:21.79).
In diving, the Falcons then took the top three places in 1-meter as Nathanael Zillweger won with 320.63 points while A.J. Eckebrecht was second (261.08) and Erich Drollinger was third (257.03). In 3-meter, Zillweger won (357.75) while Drollinger was third (270.52).
The men's and women's diving teams will host the Air Force Diving Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6, at the Cadet Natatorium. The men's swimming team is idle until the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 24-27, in Houston, Texas.
