
Falcons fall to No. 9 UC Davis, 16-10

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - UC Davis scored seven goals in the first quarter as the Aggies defeated Air Force, 16-10, in a Western Water Polo Association game on Friday, Oct. 21, in Davis, Calif.
UC Davis, 14-4 overall and 4-0 and in first place in the WWPA, scored the first two goals but the Falcons answered with goals by Riley Quinlan and Edward Smet. The Aggies then scored four of the next five goals for a 7-3 lead after one period. Erik Whyte scored early in the second quarter, but the Aggies scored the next three for a 10-4 lead. The teams traded goals late in the second as UCD had a 13-5 lead at the half.
Air Force, 4-13 overall and 0-4 in the league, outscored UCD, 4-2 in third quarter and trailed 16-9 after three. Garrett Fisk scored twice in the third quarter. Falcon senior Eric Curia scored the only goal of the fourth quarter to make up the final margin.
Fisk and Empey led the Falcons with two goals each. Bryce Leiter and Ryan Dorris each had two assists.
The Falcons will compete in the Rodeo Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 23. Air Force will face service academy rival Navy (6-10 overall) in Saratoga, Calif., at 10:40 am PT. The Falcons' final game will be against 10th-ranked Bucknell (14-3 overall) in Santa Clara, Calif., at 2:40 pm PT.
