
Air Force beats Navy for second straight year

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - For the second straight year, the Air Force water polo team defeated Navy with an 8-6 win in the Rodeo Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 23, in Saratoga, Calif. After 10 straight losses to the Mids from 2000-2014, the Falcons have now won two straight.
Navy scored first and had a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Trailing 3-2, Riley Quinlan and Garrett Fisk scored for a 4-3 Falcon lead. After Navy tied the game, Eric Curia scored with 23 seconds left in the second quarter for a 5-4 lead at the half. Fisk's second of the game gave the Falcons a 6-4 lead, but the Mids answered again late in the third. Curia put the Falcons up 7-5 early in the fourth and Navy again responded to cut the Falcon lead to 7-6. Curia completed the hat trick at 6:35 of the fourth for an 8-6 lead as the Falcons held off the Mids for the victory.
In the second game of the day, 10th-ranked Bucknell jumped out to an early lead for a 13-5 win over Air Force. Bucknell scored the first two goals of the game before Garrett Fisk scored for the Falcons. Bucknell then scored the next five goals for a 7-2 lead in the second quarter. After a goal by Riley Thomas in the second quarter, Bucknell scored the next four for an 11-2 lead in the third. Thomas scored two more goals for the Falcons to make up the final margin.
Air Force hosts a pair of home games on Oct. 29 at the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons host WWPA foe Fresno Pacific at 10:30 am and then Chapman University at 7:30 pm.
