Falcons advance to fifth-place game with win over FPU

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Zach Kamai and Jack Empey each scored four goals to lead Air Force to a 13-9 win over Fresno Pacific in the consolation round of the Western Water Polo Association Championships, Saturday, Nov. 19, in Santa Clara, Calif. With the win, Air Force advances to Sunday's fifth-place game against Santa Clara at 9:30 am PT.
Fresno Pacific held a 3-2 lead late in the first quarter, but the Falcons scored five unanswered goals for a 7-3 lead late in the second. Kamai scored three goals in the run, including his third on the power-play at 5:26. A goal by Garrett Fisk late in the second gave the Falcons a 9-5 lead at the half. Eric Curia and Kamai scored in the third and then Curia and Riley Quinlan scored in the fourth as the Falcons held off the Sunbirds, 13-9.
Air Force (10-16 overall) outshot FPU, 41-33. The Falcons scored four power-play goals and added two goals on five-meter penalty shots. Quinlan had two goals and two assists while Curia had two goals and Edward Smet had two assists.
