Falcons With Four Champions at the Cowboy Open

Laramie, Wyo. - The Falcon wrestling team concluded the Cowboy Open with two individual titles, a set of co-champions and 14 place winners, Saturday, at Wyoming University's War Memorial Fieldhouse. Sophomore 165-pounder Alex Lopouchanski and freshman 174-pounder Randy Meneweather earned first-place titles in their respective divisions. Senior team captain Parker Hines and sophomore Anthony McLaughlin agreed to a co-champion finish in the 197 class.
Lopouchanski went 4-0 on the day with three decision victories and a major decision en route to the title. Meneweather registered two technical falls, a fall in 58 seconds and two decision victories on his 5-0 warpath to the 174 title. Hines and McLaughlin both went 3-0 to make it to the championship round where they opted to co-champion results.
Sophomore Isaac Jimenez went 2-1 en route to his second place finish, while freshman Alec Opsal registered three falls and a technical fall for a 4-1 finish and a second place in the 125 class. Senior team captain Jerry McGinty finished second in the 149 class with a medical forfeit in the final bout; he notched three wins on the day.
Tyler Weiderholt (165), Dane Robbins (157) and Drew Romero (125) earned third place finishes; Kerry Powers (HWT) and Matt Wagner (HWT) were slated to compete for third but instead opted for a friednly third-place tie in the the heavyweight class. Bridger Barker (184) and Michael Billinglsey (174) registered fourth place finishes on the evening.
Sophomore Josh Mossing claimed the fastest fall time on the team with a pin in 48 seconds. Meneweather and Wiederholt registered the most wins with five apiece on the tournament. Opsal logged the most falls (3) with the fastest coming in 3:51.
The Falcons continue action on the mats in the annual Black and Blue Intrasquad dual, Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m., in Clune Arena. The bouts will help the Falcons determine the starting lineup for the upcoming dual slate.
