
Falcons beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-5

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force water polo team closed out the 2016 regular season with a 9-5 win over Claremont-Mudd- Scripps, Sunday, Nov. 6, in Claremont, Calif. Air Force finished the regular season with a 9-15 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the Western Water Polo Association. The Falcons are the sixth seed in the WWPA Tournament, Nov. 18-20, in Santa Clara, Calif., and will face third-seeded Loyola Marymount, Friday, Nov. 18, at 12:15 pm PT.
Against CMS, the teams traded goals early in the game, but the Falcons scored two at the end of the second as Riley Thomas and Luke Andres scored for a 4-2 lead at the half.
Garrett Fisk and Thomas scored early in the third for a 6-3 lead. After CMS scored early in the fourth to make the score 6-4, Thomas scored three straight for a 9-4 advantage. CMS added a late goal to make up the final margin.
Thomas led the Falcons with five goals and added two steals. Fisk had two goals in the game. Thomas scored 15 goals on the three-game road trip. Senior Max Benson made 18 saves for the Falcons.
Air Force is now idle until the WWPA Tournament.
