Rifle team finishes sixth in the NCAA Smallbore Championships

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. (Akron, Ohio) - In today's NCAA Men's and Women's Smallbore Championships, the Air Force rifle team finished in sixth place with a score of 2309. West Virginia University was the first-place finisher with a 2338. Air Force freshman Spencer Cap was the team's top individual finisher in 18th place.
In smallbore relay 1, Cap ranked 18th with 580 points. In the gun, he shot a 96, 97, 100, 99, 97 and 91. Freshman Anna Weilbacher followed in 19th place with 579 points, scoring a 94, 96, 100, 99, 93 and 97. Junior Ryan Jacobs finished 27th in the standings with a 577, and his rounds included a 94, 95, 95, 100, 96 and 97. His total is eight points greater than his 2015 score (569).
In smallbore relay 2, it was the seniors turn to shoot. David Higgins, moving from last to 36th place, fired a 191, 199 and 183 in the match to finished with a 573, which is six points higher than his previous NCAA score (567 in 2015).
Tyler Rico finished the match in 40th place with a final score of 572. In all three positions, he scored a 192, 192 and 188.
The NCAA Men's and Women's Air Rifle Championships are Saturday, March 12.
