Zach Johnson Named MW Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a strong outdoor opener last weekend that produced a pair of top-35 marks in the NCAA, Air Force junior Zach Johnson was named the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the of Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday, March 29. It is the first career MW award for the Farmington, N.M., native.
Johnson impacted two of the Academy's top-10 lists during the Aztec Invitational on March 25-26, registering the fourth-fastest 200-meter time and running a leg of the 4x100-meter relay that posted the program's sixth-fastest time.
The junior used a career-best 200-meter time of 21.08 to finish second out of 23 runners in that event on March 26. Clocking the fourth-fastest time in program history, Johnson became the first Falcon in seven years to impact the top four of that event's all-time standings. With that time, he currently leads the conference is ranked 35th in the NCAA.
He also ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay that finished first in the "invitational" section with a time of 40.71 – the sixth-fastest time in Academy history. The relay, which included Johnson, freshman Miguel Molas, sophomore Robbie Anderson and sophomore Jamiel Trimble, currently holds the fastest time in the conference.
Johnson, who added a third-place finish the 100-meter dash (wind-aided 10.46) to rank second in the conference and 27th in the nation, shared the conference's March 29 award with Colorado State's Mostafa Hasson (men's field) and San Diego State's Ashley Henderson (women's track) and Bonnie Draxler (women's field).
The Falcons return to California this weekend for the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival on April 1-2.
