Russell Williams Named to Baseball Academic All-America Team

Junior Russell Williams of Air Force Baseball has been named to the 2016 Academic All-America® Division I baseball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Williams, a first baseman, made the third team.
Williams, an economics major, maintains a 3.82 grade point average. The McKinney, Texas, native has also earned two consecutive Academic All-District 7 First-Team honors.
In addition to his excellence in the classroom, Williams was a key contributor to the 2016 Falcon baseball team. He started 56 of 57 games at first base, batting .306 with five home runs and 31 RBIs. Williams currently ranks first in the Mountain West with 601 chances and 567 putouts. The junior had one of Air Force's biggest base hits of the season, hitting a two-run single for the game winning runs that ultimately rallied Air Force to a 9-7 upset win over top-seed Fresno State at the MW Championship.
Williams is the first Falcon baseball player to earn Academic All-America honors since Josh Phifer in 2003.
Air Force recently finished the 2016 season with a 30-27 record for its first winning season since 1995. The 30 wins is second all-time at the Academy.
