
Falcons defeat No. 11 Princeton, 11-10

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Senior goalie Max Benson made a season-high 17 saves to lead Air Force to an 11-10 win over No. 11 Princeton in the final game of the Mountain Pacific Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 25, in Berkeley, Calif. The Falcons, receiving votes in the national poll, placed 11th in the tournament that featured 11 of the top 12 teams in the nation.
Air Force jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter as senior captain Riley Quinlan scored twice. Goals by George Millard, Zach Kamai and Brett Fogelberg in the second quarter led the Falcons to a 7-4 lead at the half.
Princeton outscored Air Force, 3-1, in the third quarter and cut the Falcon lead to 8-7 entering the fourth. After Princeton tied the game at 8-8, Edward Smet, Riley Thomas and Jack Empey scored for an 11-8 Air Force lead. The Falcons then had to hold off a late Princeton rally as the Tigers scored two goals in the final 1:54.
Air Force hosts its first home game of the season as it opens Western Water Polo Association play on Friday, Sept. 30, against defending league tournament champion UC-San Diego at 7:30 pm at the Cadet Natatorium.
