Air Force athletics announces strategic plan

The Air Force athletics department released its newly developed Strategic Plan today, according to an announcement from Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton. The plan has been developed and nested within the recently published USAFA Strategic Plan.
"We are very proud of the process to develop our Strategic Plan as we continue the journey of going from good to great. We involved many throughout the Academy and the plan will serve as a guiding document as we continue to develop leaders of character for our Air Force and the nation."
Air Force athletics is striving to go from good to great. The first step, according to the plan, is to cement the Academy as Colorado Springs' hometown team. It is also important to continue moving forward with facilities upgrades such as the new scoreboards in Falcon Stadium, the newly renovated Blue and Silver Club and plans for a Falcon's Nest in the Cadet Field House for basketball and hockey among others.
The department also developed a vision statement:
Forging resilient leaders of character through transformational competitive athletic experiences.
In addition, a new mission statement was solidified:
Provide all cadets a realistic leadership experience in a mentally and physically challenging environment. Prepare and motivate leaders of character for a lifetime of service through physical education, fitness training and testing and intramural and Division I intercollegiate athletic competition. Generate revenue necessary to operate a multi-million dollar athletic program. Promote the Academy to the nation through athletics.
The plan states six strategic goals and gives details of each. The goals follow:
- Championship Culture: Develop character and leadership through unparalleled competitive and educations athletic experiences.
- Sustain the Enterprise: Enhance the department's nonprofit enterprise and fundraising capabilities.
- Communicate our Brand: Globally communicate Air Force athletics' reputation as a premier athletic program and proud symbol of the Air Force Academy.
- Embrace Diversity: Attract, develop and motivate highly-qualified and diverse athletic teams and workforces.
- Build and Nurture Strategic Partnerships.
- Invest and Sustain Elite State-of-the-Art Athletic and Physical Education Facilities.
