Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Wyoming in Home, WAC Opener

The Falcons had four event wins on the day
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team opened home and Western Athletic Conference action with a tough 179-121 dual defeat to rival Wyoming Friday evening, Oct. 19, at Cadet Natatorium.
"We raced very well, we never like to lose a meet, especially to our main rival, but the guys swam really well," Head Coach Rob Clayton expressed. "We had a lot of guys who had great meets. We competed really well, we just need to gain more experience. We're going to get better as the year goes on."
The Falcons had four event wins on the day, all coming in the back and fly events. In the 100 back, junior Cole McAnany finished first with a 50.64, while freshman Isaac Gwin took second with a 50.70. In the 200 back, the Falcons went 1-2-3 as sophomore Ben Settle took first with a 1:54.56, while McAnany placed second and Gwin completed the trio in third.
In the fly events, freshman Aaron Pang claimed gold in the 100 fly with a 50.54, while fellow frosh Andrew Limpert came in right behind him with a 51.19. In the 200 fly, sophomore Peter Lochmaier placed first with a 1:50.97, while Limpert came in third with a 1:52.72.
Elsewhere in the meet was highlighted by a handful of runner-up performances, starting with the relay events, as the Falcons went 2-3 in the 200 medley relay, while also taking second in the 400 free relay. Individual silver performances came from freshman Adam Grimm in the 1,000 free, freshman Matthew Lattin in the 200 free, and junior Zach Nelson in the 200 breast.
At the diving pool, sophomore Cole Armagost had a solid overall day, placing second in both the 1 and 3 meter dives. The Papillon, Nebraska native scored a total of 255.53 in the 1-meter, while totaling a 277.68 in the 3-meter.
The Falcons will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 20, for a tri meet with Colorado Mesa and the Colorado School of Mines. Action at Cadet Natatorium, which will run alongside the women, is set to begin at 1 p.m.
