NEW ORLEANS – After a runner-up finish at last week's conference championship meet, the Air Force men's cross country moved up three spots to No. 13 in the latest edition of the NCAA Division I National Coaches' Poll, which was released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Oct. 30. The women continue to receive votes in the coaches' poll, marking the 11th time in program history that both Air Force squads are mentioned in the same USTFCCCA poll.
The men, who also moved up to No. 4 in the regional rankings, registered 191 points to jump from 16th to 13th in the national poll. Backed by top-10 finishes from the senior trio of Mickey Davey, Nathan Thomas and Trevor Siniscalchi, Air Force finished second at the Mountain West Championships – finishing ahead of one higher-ranked squad and another top-30 program.
The women, who made their 2018 debut in the national standings in the previous poll, tallied nine points this week to rank fifth in the "Also Receiving Votes" category and just six points out of the top-30. Backed by all-conference performances from senior Jaci Smith (fifth) and sophomore Maria Mettler (14th), the women finished third at the MW Championships – bettering one nationally-ranked team and only trailing two of the top-three teams in the country in the overall 11-team standings.
Air Force returns to action on Friday, Nov. 9, when they travel to Utah for the NCAA Mountain Regional.
