Rifle team defeats Virginia Military Institute

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – On Sunday, Air Force (4694) defeated the VMI men's team (4492) and the women' rifle team (4336) in Lexington, Va. The Falcons led in both rifles, leading VMI 2334-2226-2107 in smallbore, and 2360-2276-2229 in air rifle, respectively.

Seniors Anna Weilbacher and Spencer Cap led all shooters in the final scoring. Weilbacher led with an aggregate 1176, followed by Cap with an 1173. The team's other top finishers were sophomore Nate Peterson with an 1171, freshman Peter Fiori and junior Logan Ogden who finished with 1170s. Freshman Casper Schadler ended with an aggregate score of 1158, followed by sophomore Sarah Sawicki with an 1149.

The Falcons' official scorers in smallbore were Cap with a 584, Fiori had a 582, Ogden with a 578, Peterson had a 583, and Weilbacher with the highest score of 585.

In the air rifle, Ogden led with a 592, followed by Weilbacher's 591 and Cap's 589. Fiori and Schadler both scored 588s.

Air Force is now 9-1 on the season. The rifle team is off until Nov. 17 when they travel to El Paso, Texas, for a match against conference opponent UTEP.
