Wrestling Concludes Time at Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS – The Air Force Academy wrestling team finished up action at the 2018 Cliff Keen Invitational Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Falcons, had two wrestlers in action, but both fell to nationally ranked grapplers in the bloodround to just miss a placement in the top eight.

Junior Alec Opsal at 149 lbs. and senior co-captain Alex Mossing at 157 lbs. both started the day in the consolation Round of 8 #2, with a chance to earn a top eight spot. Opsal matched up with No. 15 Josh Heil, and Mossing against No. 17 Hunter Willits. Opsal was upended by a 12-2 major decision, while Mossing had a tough decision loss, 14-6. The defeats resulted in both to fall just shy of the top eight.

As a team, Air Force totaled 17.5 points to place 30th out of 43 teams.

The Falcons will return to the mats next Sunday, Dec. 9, for a home dual against Big 12 foe North Dakota State. Start time against the Bison is set for 2 p.m. The dual will be USA Wrestling Day, as the team will honor Team USA during the intermission.
