Falcons fall to No. 8 UCSD, 20-12

Luke Andres and Justin Harrison each scored three goals for the Falcons
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- UC San Diego, ranked eighth in the nation, scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 20-12 win over Air Force, in a Western Water Polo Association game, Friday, Sept. 28, at the Cadet Natatorium.
Trailing 4-0 late in the first quarter, Luke Andres scored on the power play, but the Falcons trailed 6-1 at the end of the first.
Air Force out-scored the Tritons, 5-3, in the second quarter. Justin Harrison and Jason Hires each scored and then Andres scored two. With 51 seconds left in the second, a pair of freshman combined for a goal as Henry Yavitt scored from Sam Fuller on the power play.
In the third quarter, the teams traded goals early as Edward Smet scored on the power play. The Tritons then scored the next two. Mike Miller and Reagan Pittman scored on the power play late in the third and the Tritons had a 14-9 lead entering the final quarter.
Justin Harrison scored in the first 14 seconds of the fourth on the power play from Kevin Hansen to cut the UCSD lead to 14-10. The Tritons scored the next two before Campbell Harris scored on the power play at 5:14. After two more UCSD goals, Harrison scored the final goal for the Falcons with 3:40 remaining.
UCSD had 38 shots while Air Force had 36. Air Force scored seven power-play goals.
Andres and Harrison each had three goals for the Falcons. Mike Miller led the team with three assists. Sophomore goalie James Burke played the first half and had five saves. Freshman Anthony Tolbert played the second half and had two saves.
The Falcons (3-9, 1-2 WWPA) are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. against Santa Clara at the Cadet Natatorium.
