U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Feb. 16 – Following the NCAA Rifle Qualifier Match on Saturday, Air Force is ranked third in the nation with an average score of 9408.67. In the qualifier match against TCU, the Falcons were defeated, 4711-4702, at the Falcon Rifle Range. In the smallbore match, the two teams tied with 2331 points. TCU defeated Air Force by 9 points in air rifle (2380-2371). Leading all scorers in the match, freshman Peter Fiori led with a total score of 1180.
As the match leader, Fiori scored a 586 in the smallbore, and had a 594 in air rifle to earn him the aggregate 1180. The qualifier score is the third time, during the season, the freshman has led all counters (NCAA) in matches, including the conference championships with an 1184 where he received all-conference honors.
In the final qualifier of her career, senior Anna Weilbacher hit her prone target straight on for 200 points toward her final smallbore score of 585. For her career, it was her best qualifier smallbore score. She also tied her highest qualifier aggregate with an 1173. A two-time all-conference (2018, 2019) Weilbacher finishes her Academy career with an 1184 career high. She averaged 1172.9 points for all NCAA matches for the season.
Junior Logan Ogden ended the day with an aggregate score of 1171. In smallbore, he shot a 579, and had a 592 in the air rifle. He has an 1174.33 career average for qualifiers, and averaged 1171.7 points for all matches for the season.
Senior Spencer Cap, finished the qualifier with an 1170 aggregate, and had a 581 in smallbore, followed by a 589 in the air rifle. He ends his Academy career as a three-time all-conference athlete.
Sophomore Nate Peterson, ended the day with an overall score of 1169, and had a 577 in smallbore and a 592 in the air rifle, which were his highest scores of his career for qualifiers. His aggregate score was a match for his career best.
Freshman Casper Schadler finished the match with an 1163, and scored a 596 in air rifle. To achieve the score, he shot a 98, 100, 99, 100, 100, and 99. In smallbore, he had a 567.
Air Force is now 14-4, and 12-3 for conference matches.
Currently in the NCAA Team Standings, TCU is first with 9424 total points, Kentucky is second with 9411.33, and Air Force is third with 9408.67 points. The Falcons third-place ranking is the highest in school history since 2013. Currently ranked fourth through eighth is West Virginia (9405.67), Navy (9344.67), Army (9343.33), Morehead St. (9338.67) and Alaska Fairbanks (9328.33), respectively.
Following the conclusion of all qualifier matches around the country, all teams will wait to find out if they've been selected for the NCAA Men's and Women's Collegiate Rifle Championships, March 8-9, in Morgantown, WV. The NCAA selection committee will make the announcement on Tuesday, February 19.
