The freshman placed sixth at 125 kg
LAS VEGAS – Members of the Air Force Academy wrestling team participated in the 2019 U.S. Open in Las Vegas this past weekend, April 25-27. 11 Falcon grapplers competed in Freestyle and Greco-Roman competition against some of the top wrestlers in the country, and freshman Kayne Hutchison was able to earn UWW Junior Freestyle All-American honors at 125 kg, placing sixth.
It is the second time Hutchison has earned All-American honors at this event, as he placed fifth last season while attending the Prep School. Hutchison technically went 3-0 in the competition, as after his third win to lock up a semifinal spot, he medically forfeited out of competition, placing him in sixth. Hutchison had entered the bracket as the fourth seeded wrestler.
AF wrestlers, representing the Air Force Regional Training Center, collected wins across the board, as they totaled 18 wins across the 11 wrestlers. The most came from sophomore Tommy Stager at UWW Junior Freestyle 70 kg, as he won four matches in the consolation bracket, and finished just shy of the bloodround.
