
Alex Mossing Advances to Finals of 2019 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament

He will compete in a best 2-out-of-3 showdown tomorrow afternoon for the title
RALEIGH, N.C. – Air Force Academy senior wrestler Alex Mossing advanced to the finals in the 72 kg Senior Men's Greco-Roman bracket at the 2019 USA Wrestling World Team Trials, held at the Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State, Friday, May 17. Mossing will now wrestle best two out of three for the title, and a spot in Final X.
Mossing, who is representing the Air Force Regional Training Center, entered the tournament as the No. 9 seed, and was paired up in the round of 16 against No. 8 seeded Connor Myers of the Army WCAP program.
He breezed by Myers, 13-2, setting up a showdown with No. 1 seeded RaVaughn Perkins. Mossing trailed, 5-2, but was able to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, pinning Perkins, and punching his ticket to the semifinals.
In the semis, Mossing matched up with No. 5 seeded Nick Tarpley, and was able to grind his way to a 13-11 win and get to tomorrow's final round. He will face No. 2 seeded Michael Hooker of the Army WCAP program in a best 2-out-of-3 battle. The winner will then go to Final X, where they will compete for a spot on Team USA at the World Championships.
